We told the kids on Sunday that we were going to on an adventure the next day. We didn't tell them where we were going, just got them up, fed them, changed clothes and we were off. They were so excited for two little kids who had no idea where they were going.
So we drove up to Portland and to the Oregon Zoo. The weather was absolutely awful, it rained so much and was so cold and you know what? We had the best time. The kids did so good with all that rain and the cold, we had a wonderful adventure.
What is this thing in the picture? A walrus? A sea lion? I don't remember exactly but the thing is freakin' huge!
The majority of the pictures of the kids from the zoo are of the backs of their heads. I'd have to be standing behind them and yell, "T! K!" to get them to turn around so I could get a shot, here's one of the few.
There is a mini-farm area with sheep, goats and hay bales so we did some horsey riding. And of course, K could never ride a horse without "puttee" - her blankie.
T was reluctant to look at the camera, he was too busy reading the cow chart to his right.
After a while, the kids were starting to get tired of walking (we had the stroller but it apparently wasn't as much fun if you were in a stroller - I would have sat in the thing if I could fit, I don't get it.) Anyhow, we were soaking wet and tired so we bought tickets to ride the train. I think this was probably the hightlight of T's adventure, he loved it. K laid down on the bench seat and took a little nap for most of it. Clearly she wasn't as enthralled with it as T.
T waving "Goodbye" to the man on the platform.
Cliff and the kids - er - animals. :0)
The kids didn't know it but we had booked a hotel room for the night. So once we were done at the zoo we just drove to the hotel and told them we were getting a room. T was so excited. He yelled, "Sis! We're getting a room! We staying the night here!" So we pulled out the hide-a-bed for the kids, made popcorn and watched movies for the rest of the evening. This was one of the best adventures ever, looking forward to many more.
